Blogging Around

Centaurus A Active Galaxy, 12 million light years away and 1.4 Million light years long. That is one big object when you figure our own galaxy is only 100 thousand light years across.

The big news is that the Fermi probe has finished it's 2nd year survey of the night sky in the gamma ray spectrum, greatly increasingly our astrophysical knowledge yet revealing more mysteries than ever. Phil Plait covers it at Bad Astronomy here.

ALSO ... the Kepler probe has located the first planet now known to be orbiting a binary star, 200 light years away, Space.com covers it here, and Alan Boyle at Cosmic Log provides detail here.

Plans for he truly amazing new NASA SLS (Space Launch System) have been announced complete with NASA provided animation (very cool) and have been put up by Universe Today: here.

Finally, Phil Plait is confused (and so am I) as to whether or nor not the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has truly been "saved" by the US Senate: here.
