Beautiful Carl Sagan - We Are Not Alone
This is beautiful and inspirational, and reminds us why we do what we do. Sorta makes doing the mind-blowingly simple yet annoyingly BORING Linear Algebra calculations worthwhile, and tells us that ultimately there is a reason, and important goal behind all this stuff.
I learned about this video today at Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy weblog: here.
Yup. Remember the video Stephen Hawking did about Sagan? "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch ... you must first create a Universe" or some such. Inspiring guy. All those sessions on Johnny Carson's couch inspired a generation to love Science.
Anyways on that Star-stuff, this just in ... the first stars weren't nicely spaced, but appeared in clumps. That makes sense since the clumps would get clumpier and then make the first black holes, and they would make the first galaxies, and somewhere down the road our parents, and you know what they made. :-)
I also found it appalling the difference in sizes between defense budgets and Science budgets. On the one hand we can do better, on the other what do people think made those Defense budgets so large in the first place?

"We are star-stuff"... such a uplifting fact.
